UArt History
University Art has always been known for our customer service. We’ve been supplying the creative needs of the Bay Area for 70 years. We started as an art supply store in Palo Alto in 1948, and since then have been providing art supplies, framing and custom framing to the wide, creative audience of Silicon Valley and Sacramento.
In our 70 years, we have opened branches far and near, moved, adapted to the changing needs of our customers and Silicon Valley and technology, and have since settled into two locations providing our customers a service friendly and educational shopping experience.
Our story began in 1947 when the Cappiello family moved from New York City to Palo Alto, CA. In 1948, Laurie and Ginny, along with their father, Anthony Cappiello, purchased a small stationery store on University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto. Anthony painted, so they added art supplies and eventually, wall and photo frames. They learned the art of custom framing and became one of the best custom frame stores. Today, frame selection and custom framing at our Redwood City and Sacramento stores are among the finest in the Bay Area.
Although we have moved, expanded and retracted, over the years we have maintained that our mission is to provide knowledgeable, experienced, friendly customer service throughout in helping our customers with all of their creative needs. At UArt we work hard to meet and exceed our customer’s expectations, and we’re always improving the quality of the service we provide. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where you can explore in one of our three art supply stores, learn by taking an art class or workshop in one of our learning centers, and enjoy your shopping experience for art supplies, craft supplies and creative gifts each and every time you visit.

Gift Cards
To Purchase University Art Gift Cards online via PayPal, click the BUY NOW button. Your University Art Gift Card will be mailed via USPS First Class mail at no additional charge. University Art Gift Cards may only be used for in-store purchases.

Return Policies
- All returns are subject to a manager’s approval
- Refunds are given within 60 days of purchase with the original receipt
- A Store Credit will be issued for merchandise purchased with a Gift Certificate or Store Credit
- After 60 days, only exchanges and/or Store Credits will be issued
- Items must be in a “re-saleable” condition, in their original packaging (including plastic shrink-wrap or cardboard blister pack).
- Credit Card Refunds will be credited to the original credit card
- Cash, Check and Debit Card Refunds over $50.00 will be made by check and mailed to the customer
- There are NO Returns on books, seasonal & clearance items, Pantone products, paper cutters & projectors, airbrushes & parts.
Returned Checks
There will be a $25.00 Service Fee applied to all returned checks.
